Boiler Upgrade Scheme

UK Government Boiler Upgrade Scheme Explained

Feeling the pinch of rising energy costs and climate concerns? The UK government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) can help! This grant program tackles fuel poverty and promotes cleaner heating solutions. Administered by Ofgem, the BUS offers up to £1.5 billion in funding for eligible homeowners and businesses.

UK Government Boiler Upgrade Scheme Explained

What is the BUS?

It’s a government grant program that encourages switching to ground or air source heat pumps or biomass boilers (in limited circumstances replacing fossil fuel heating). The BUS helps reduce reliance on traditional fuels and supports the UK’s goal of net zero emissions by 2050. With a total funding pool of £1.5 billion, the scheme runs until March 31st, 2028.

Time to ditch your old boiler?

The BUS recently increased individual grant amounts, making the switch to cleaner heating even more attractive. Escape the high cost of energy and invest in a greener future. Check your eligibility for the BUS today and start saving!

How much funding can I access via the ECO4 Scheme?

From Monday 23 October 2023, installers have been able to apply for the newly increased grant amounts, the grants available are based on heating measures as shown in the table below:

Who can benefit from the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

The BUS offers grants to both homeowners and businesses in England and Wales. Unlike some other UK energy efficiency schemes, income or benefit status isn’t a factor for eligibility. However, your property does need to be suitable for a heat pump or biomass boiler installation. It’s important to consider if these heating solutions align with your needs before applying.

Is your property in England or Wales?

If so, it might be eligible for a BUS grant!

However, there’s a catch: To ensure optimal performance of heat pumps or biomass boilers, the BUS requires some basic energy-efficiency measures to be in place before installation. This means:

  • Cavity walls: They must be filled with insulation.
  • Loft insulation: Your loft needs to have a minimum insulation depth.

How to prove it?

You’ll need a recent Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) that doesn’t list these measures as “required.” This indicates your property already meets the minimum energy efficiency standards for the BUS.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme: A Greener Heating Solution

The UK government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) aims to incentivize switching to cleaner heating systems. Here’s how it works:

  • Eligible heating options: The BUS offers grants for installing air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps, and biomass boilers (in limited circumstances replacing fossil fuel heating).
  • Grant amount: While the total funding pool is generous (£1.5 billion), the specific grant amount you receive may vary.
  • Potential out-of-pocket costs: While the BUS provides significant financial support, you might need to contribute some funds towards the installation costs.

Considering a switch? The BUS can help you reduce reliance on traditional fuels and invest in a more eco-friendly heating system. Check your eligibility and explore the available options to see if the BUS is right for you.
